About Simple Organic
Green living is no longer marginal. More and more everyday Janes and Joes want to make their lifestyles more environmentally responsible. They recognize the value of being good stewards, no matter their political, religious, or cultural bent.
But there’s a lot of lingo, buzzwords, and confusing statistics that make it hard to know what to do or how to begin.
Simple Organic is about sustainable and healthy living for mainstream people.
Simple Organic is about sustainable and healthy living for mainstream people. We’ll cover green tips and trends, provide tutorials on repurposing items you already own, frugal crafts that celebrate nature and responsible living, and ways to improve your health and lifestyle with natural remedies.
This is a positive, family-friendly place geared to the average home manager interested in “greenifying” their home and lifestyle. We have no interest in piling on the guilt or preaching a hermit lifestyle.
We want to highlight the growing handmade trend.
We want to provide you with tips and tools that make it easier to be an environmentally-responsible steward.
We want to help you pursue whole-body wellness through natural and healthy means.
Mostly, we want to show that being eco-wise really is family-friendly and simple.

Editor of Simple Organic
Katie Fox
To paraphrase a line from an old country song, Katie was “green when green wasn’t cool.” Growing up in the suburbs of Houston, she watched her parents drive an hour each month to take their recyclables in to the city. This made an impression on her, and she credits them with being the first to teach her the importance of creation care.
Katie first became interested in natural living when she was diagnosed with thyroid disease in 2001. Realizing that lifestyle changes were an important part of her healing process, she set out on a path toward wellness that included not only nutrition, but eventually spilled over into all aspects of her life in the quest for truly whole living. She also loves to read and has a secret dream to write books someday, but at the moment she stays busy as a cloth-diapering, scratch-cooking, green-living stay-at-home mama, and is married to her best friend, Shaun.

Nicole Bennett
Nicole is passionate about living a more natural and handmade lifestyle and hopes to raise a family that cares for Creation. She left the university world to stay at home with her daughter and she and her husband are looking forward to welcoming an adopted baby sometime in the near future. Nicole can often be found reading, sewing, knitting, experimenting in the kitchen, surfing, watching baseball, or trying her hand at the Great American Novel. She can also be found online at GidgetGoesHome.com and RoundBallRoundBat.com.
Katie Kimball
As a child in a country neighborhood filled with frogs, a best friend and tall grass to hide in, Katie Kimball spent a lot of time outside “growing up green.” She is committed to being a good steward of all God’s gifts, and taking care of the earth is part of daily life as an at-home mom of two young children in Michigan. Katie also spends a lot of time in the kitchen tending her sourdough starter, chopping vegetables, wondering what to do with liver, and doing dishes. She has a small love affair with her dishwasher, an EnergySaver running on eco-friendly detergent and no pre-rinsing. A former teacher, she feels blessed to blog at Kitchen Stewardship, where she shares baby steps to balancing your health, earth, time and money through the eyes of faith.
Stephanie Langford
Stephanie is a passionate homeschooler, organic gardener and amateur nutritionist. She’s also the wife of an entrepreneur and a mama to three little ones. Taking a practical approach, she writes daily articles on inspired natural living for homemakers at her blog, Keeper of the Home. Her first book, Healthy Homemaking: One Step at a Time, was published in 2009, and her second book, Real Food on a Real Budget, is due to be published February 2010.
Eren Hays San Pedro
Eren Hays San Pedro never thought she would give up her day job in website design and marketing to be a stay-at-home mom. But home is where she is happy these days with her U.S. Navy husband and her three boys (twins who are 7 and her munchkin 4 year old). Eren holds degrees in Biology and Political Science from Oklahoma State University, but as the daughter of an Texas auctioneer and an antique dealer, hunting vintage treasure and repurposing is in her blood. When she is not at the local thrift store, she can be found barefoot in her backyard garden or at the sewing machine. Eren shows how she puts a little vintage into modern day living at her blog Vintage Chica.
Amy Thompson
Amy Thompson is a stay-at-home mom and explorer of all things. You are as likely to find her at a beekeeping class as with her nose buried in a book on co-sleeping or raw food. Her Maine roots and current western locale make for a dynamic cultural balancing act as she gardens her few square feet of front lawn in the heart of the city. In between degrees (anthropology and teaching social studies) she worked as a corporate ethnographer for product design and strategy firms. Where she’s at right now, however, at home with a baby (and one on the way!), a small flock of chickens and something tasty on the stove, is by far her favorite career yet. She loves sharing her experiences with urban homesteading, natural family living, bee keeping, attachment parenting, raw food and whole food cooking, urban chicken “farming,” unschooling and whatever else is inspiring her. She chronicles her family’s daily attempts to live simply, parent gently and live well at her blog Progressive Pioneer.
Megan Tietz
As the oldest of four children, the need to nurture comes as second nature for Megan. In 2005, she traded in her lesson plans and grading pens for playgroups and library storytimes as she engaged in her lifelong dream of being a mom at home. Her favorite memories from childhood involve weaving dandelions, rolling in the grass, reading for hours on end, and preparing backyard tea parties. She strongly believes that when it comes to parenting and childhood, simple is better. Megan’s personal interests include reading, writing, and photography, and she blogs about faith, mothering, and natural living at SortaCrunchy. Her husband and two beautiful daughters provide an endless amount of motivation and inspiration amidst days filled with books and baby dolls, scissors and glue, and the occasional tea party in the backyard.
