Meet Nicole

Thanks for taking a minute to get to know me. My name is Nicole Bennett and I am honored to be the editor of Simple Organic.

I love spending my days taking my kiddos to the beach, reading, and squeezing in time for creativity and writing between cooking, spending time with my hubby and managing the the home and the family. Whew! I’m a woman of many passions, who wears lots of hats.

My husband, David, and I met in college at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo (at a concert) and were married two weeks after I graduated with a B.A. in Modern Languages and Literature. I also have a Master’s in Spanish, and taught at Cal State Long Beach before my daughter was born.

In the last seven years, our family has grown to include a spunky daughter, Gigi (3), and the sweetest baby boy, Brody, who we adopted this past spring. They keep me on my toes to be sure, and are definitely one of my inspirations for leading a more natural lifestyle, as I seek to keep them healthy and also leave them a legacy of sustainable living.

Our family is fun and active… we love baseball (Go Dodgers!), the beach, traveling, camping and spending time with our extended family and friends. In 2009, we took a three week road trip to go to twelve MLB baseball games, and as of now, we’ve been to twenty of the thirty ballparks, with our daughter (Brody definitely has some catching up to do; he’s only been to two.)

After faithfully documenting family life online for a while, I started my personal blog in 2008, when I discovered I needed a new outlet to start sharing my deeper thoughts and personal research on green living. Since then Gidget Goes Home has blossomed into a place where I also share crafty inspiration (and my love of homemade ice cream).

Simple Organic really reflects one of the passionate pursuits I’ve been leading my family towards in the last few years, going back to a simpler, more natural and homemade lifestyle. I am constantly inspired by the community that has developed here, and for that I thank you, dear readers.
